Guess What I Caught!

. . .  and it’s not the flu!

Phoenie and his fish - holding fish 2

I caught a 12 pound trout! (about) Nana told me that all fishermen exaggerate about the size of fish that they catch! This is how the whole thing went down.

Papak and Nana’s friend, Garth and his fourteen-year-old son, Connor, took me ice fishing. I’ve never done this before so I was very excited. Garth picked me up in a four wheeler and we drove on Lake Simcoe for almost twenty minutes. As soon as we got to the hut, Garth opened the door for me and it was pitch black inside. All I could see were two rectangular holes that had been drilled through the ice and I saw some minnows on the surface of the water. We waited about an hour, staring at the fish finder. All of a sudden, we saw a fish coming from the side and Connor started swinging the bait to make it look like it was alive.

Connor caught the first fish.

Then I saw my fish on the fish finder and it was even bigger than Connor’s fish!  I realed the fish in and it was huge! I think my arm was ripped off in the process! When I saw the fish, I knew my patience paid off.  I was so happy to know that I had caught this fish by myself.

We put my fish in a basket in front of the four-wheeler and we rode home. I was so excited to show Papak and Nana what I caught – I knew they would be impressed. They were amazed!

As soon as Papak saw my fish, he said, “Dinner is served” and he fried it up.
