Soup’s On At The Lindstroms!

Soup's On!

What a great idea!

Our church recently started up a new thing that happens about once/month—it’s called, “Soup’s On.” Chris and I signed up to provide soup (we made one pot of sweet potato-carrot-red lentil-apple soup and one pot of Salmon Chowder) and bread for whoever wanted to come to our place for lunch. We ended up feeding thirteen and we had an awesome afternoon together.

Simple, low-key, no fuss hospitality is what I’m talking about! . . .

. . . and nothing beats face-to-face time with each other.

Human beings are social species. We are designed for face-to-face communication. We are wired to read facial expressions and body language. When we make time to meet, laugh together, smile at one another, shake hands, listen to each other or share a meal, we bond at a level that cannot be replaced by electronic communication.

Are we losing the art of hospitality? Are we settling for easily misunderstood and short-cut online communication? More importantly, are we missing out on God’s best in our relationships?

I’m thinking, YES, YES, and YES.

Committing to hosting or getting involved with Soup’s On was a declaration of prioritizing face-to-face communication for everyone involved . . .

. . . and it was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10.25 ESV
