Our Never-Changing God

Good Monday morning!

Fresh snow.   I never get tired of it.

Living by the water in this part of Canada provides an endless and constantly changing display of God’s creative hand. No day is like another.

The change is constant.

Yesterday morning, our pastor was preaching from 1 Samuel 5. 1-12 and he reminded me that our God does not change.

God is constant.

In the previous chapter, the ark of the covenant had been captured by the Philistines. In this passage, God goes on a road trip – the ark, where God “is enthroned between the cherubim” (4.4) is moved from Ashtod to Gath to Ekron because the Philistines become fearful when they see the pattern – “The Lord’s hand is heavy” (5.6,7,11) everywhere the ark is taken. There’s a The ark is not a talisman for Israel to use as a whim but neither are the Philistines to think that they have conquered Israel’s God.

God is the same everywhere, all the time. Powerful, holy, consistent.

I got to thinking about this wonderful truth of God’s unchanging nature. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13.8) He is always good. He is always faithful. He is always just. The world changes constantly and dramatically but God, His Word and His blessings do not change. He is the never-changing Truth.

I find this powerful truth so comforting as my days unfold.

I look to Him and no other.

I the Lord do not change. Malachi 3.6 NIV

I pray...C.S. Lewis
