A new friend invited my husband and I for dinner last night.

Chris and I were both exhausted from a long day that started extra early because we’ve headed back into the gym for cardio workouts, weight lifting and stretching four times/week and both our bodies have been rebelling with all the new activity. So, suffice it to say that we were draggin’. However, a free dinner sounded really good and Chris had not met my new friend’s husband so this was the perfect opportunity to get together.

My friend, Carolyn, had recently been to a fundraising silent auction and at the last minute, she had bid for a free, home-cooked-from-scratch, gourmet meal. To her surprise, she won the meal, so she and her husband, Rob, chose Chris and I to share this marvellous experience together.  We were welcomed into their beautiful home and treated like royalty as two gifted chefs cooked and served the four of us, the most scrumptious of meals.

Chris is still talking about those roasted, fingerling potatoes and although I confidently declared that there was no way in the world that I was going to be able to finish the fruit, chocolate and meringue dessert, I pretty much licked that platter clean.

Wonderful food, warm hospitality, overwhelming generosity and the joy of new friendships.  A Tuesday evening just doesn’t get better than that!

It’s about sharing, isn’t it?  Sharing our hearts, our homes, our food, our talents, our time – our lives. Sharing is caring. It’s a powerful, often non-verbal way of saying, “I care about you. You enrich my life. I want to enrich your life.” There is great joy in giving and there is great joy in receiving. We must learn how to be both hungry to give and humbled to be given.

It’s important to be part of sharing.
They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share.          1 Timothy 6.18 ESV
