The Crazy Day Before Day

There is no day like the one before the big holiday.

It doesn’t matter how organized we are, how far along we’ve gotten with the packing or how many proactive conversations we’ve had with the mail-picking up, lawn-cutting, car-fixing, garbage-taking neighbours, our feet hit the floor first thing in the morning of this crazy day before day and we haven’t stopped yet.  I know one thing – we will be collapsing on our bed soon.

Chris and I made peace with reality that this was the way it was going to be today and we haven’t been disappointed.  Work, clean, pack, talk to kids, tutor, laundry, organize, write out “Quirks of our House” details for the person who is staying in our home for a few days, remember last minute details and most importantly, move the car and all our luggage to the other side of the train tracks, just in case a train stops in front of our house at the exact time that we need to skid-addle to the airport tomorrow morning at 4:00 am. (It’s happened before and it can happen again.)

It takes a LOT of work to go on holiday.  There’s always a storm before the calm…

…but when 4:00 am comes around tomorrow morning, we’ll be heading out for a two week change of rhythm – no schedules, no responsibilities, no demands and no kids.

Alaska….here we come!

Alaska

Reading about nature is fine, but if a person walks in the woods and listens carefully, he can learn more than what is in books, for they speak with the voice of God. George Washington Carver
