New Year’s Eve

We started 2013 in a smashingly good way.

Peter is the crème de la crème when it comes to gourmet cooking and Marion is the hostess with the mostest.  Chris and I were welcomed into an enchanting evening of pure elegance, feel-good laughter, and fine cuisine in their beautifully decorated and festive home – the perfect way to usher in a new year.

I’m an eat to live rather than a live to eat kind of person so when I cook , there’s no fussing but last night, I relished every delectable morsel of food. The meal was a masterpiece. The presentation was exquisite – to the tiniest detail.  Here’s the appetizer.

However, the best part of the evening was what I call, “the perfect dance” – watching Peter and Marion work together in a not-overly-large kitchen. At the precise moment, he shifts to the right with a spatula in hand while she circles to the counter and pours the final touch of tarragon butter sauce on the scallops. She heads to the sink to clean the forks as he sweeps to the left and drizzles red wine sauce on the Beef Wellington.  With one strong and decisive arm movement,  Peter pulls the perfectly cooked phyllo pastry, bursting with banana and white chocolate out of the oven and Marion responds to his lead with a choreographed dip of raspberry/pomegranate sauce.  Perfect coordination, ending in an embrace of satisfaction when the dance is complete and the meal is enjoyed by all. It was amazing to watch – no bumping into each other, no wrong moves.

Such excellence.

I love to watch people honor God, live out their passions and serve others at the same time – it’s marvelous to behold.

May we all live so intentionally in 2013.
