Day 18…Hold Unswervingly To Hope

Day 18

Advent calendar picture 18

Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth, sing the glory of His name; give to Him glorious praise. Psalm 66. 1,2

As a bell rings out its happy sound compelling people to come where it is, so we Christians sing out in praise of our God, whose love draws us to Himself and Who will at last have us come where He is.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, hasten the day when we will come to You and sing Your praises forevermore. Amen.

He that lives in hope dances without music ~ George Herbert

There is no music in the grief-stricken town of Newton, Connecticut. There’s shock, anger, sadness, confusion…and funerals.

Grief doesn’t reach resolution quickly because no one can assimilate loss efficiently. It can’t be rushed and it can’t be explained.  So, I wonder why the media insists on trying to get families of these murdered children and adults to communicate how they feel. Grief is unique so there’s no such thing as an expert. Let these people mourn in private, without having to put words to their anguish or act “properly” in response to grief’s strangling grip.

Grief tells the truth about death. It mourns. Sometimes it even wails. It’s messy and it longs for unviolated space and time.

Grief needs to be respected, not explored.

The families will begin to tell their stories but my prayer is that it will happen when they are ready – not when the media wants it.

There is seemingly unbearable heaviness but it is hope that will move these families through their days.

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10.23

  1. Well said, Diane. Perhaps, in addtion to gun-control legislation, there should be media-control laws. LMN
