Day 10…Deep Healing

Day 10

Advent calendar picture 10

They offered Him gifts. Matthew 2.11

The Wise Men offered gifts to the Christ Child out of joy and thankfulness that He was their Saviour. The baby Jesus is no longer bodily with us, so we cannot personally present Him with gifts;but He promises us that whatever we do to the least of His people, we do to Him. He wants us to love one another and in doing so, we show our love to Him.

PRAYER: May all our gifts, Lord Jesus, be given out of love for You. Amen.

Today, I had a long conversation with a wonderful woman – we talked about brokenness and vulnerability. I experienced a “stake in the ground moment” when I finally understood why I react to anyone, in any situation, well meaning or not, who flippantly suggests that I “just need to get over it.”

Healing happens when God shines His Light on our brokenness and we choose to move through the pain, not around it.  Healing is not about “just getting over it” – it’s hard work.

Deep healing can’t be hurried because it’s in His timing, not ours.

Yesterday, in church, our pastor reminded us of the same truth.  Jesus said, ” I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”

This is the message of Christmas, isn’t it?  The Light has come.

A child has been given,

The King of our freedom,

Sing for the Light has come,

This is Christmas.

I heard this song for the first time yesterday and I know I’m going to be singing it all month. Take a minute and let the powerful truth of the lyrics wash over you.

As my new friend says,“we’re all broken and busted.”  Ain’t that the truth. A wise friend once advised me with this confession and encouragement –  “Diane, anytime I’ve tried to conceal different temptations, sins and wrong thinking, each one of these secrets grew and gained momentum in the dark. So, drag recognized sin into the light as quickly as you can.”

Andrew Stanley once said, “The reason you fear the consequences of confession is because you’ve yet to realize the consequences of concealment.”

We all need Jesus, the Light of the World, to shine into the dark places of our lives.

For God, who said, ” Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4.6 NIV

  1. so true- we are all broken and busted… love the song too

    • It’s a great song, isn’t it? I’ve been humming it all day.

  2. BIG TIME busted~ xoxo

  3. The original book was “I’m OK, You’re OK” – another version came out later with the title “I’m not OK, You’re not OK” – that’s probably closer to the truth. We are all broken people. We all need the Great Physician to heal us.
