Thanksgiving Dinner 2012

As I reached for my turkey tray, a very heavy serving platter slipped out of its cupboard slot and landed vertically on the top of my left foot. My family watched it happen and after I hobbled to the chair, wincing in pain, my daughter said, “Just leave mom alone. Let her be by herself for a second. Don’t bug her. She’ll be OK.”

Dawne was so right. I just needed a few moments to regroup and deal with the pain. The bruise and the swelling started immediately and I slowed down long enough to ice my foot for a quick ten minutes. Then I was off and running..well…limping… again, getting our Thanksgiving turkey dinner on the table.

I had a lot of help – dinner was a real team effort. It made for a wonderful time with family and friends.

We ended the evening with a rousing game of MAD GAB and everyone’s true colors shone through.  I definitely have a very competitive daughter and husband. If you ever find yourself playing a game with Dawne, watch out!

Lots of laughs, wonderful food and loving relationships.

Thank you God, for these moments of celebration.

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Psalm 100:1-5

  1. So, where’s the picture of everyone sprawled on the couch, having had way too much food to eat?? Looks like you were having a wonderful time with friends and family – lots of people (and food!) to give thanks for.

    • In Chris’ family, that “flopping down after a big Thanksgiving dinner” is called the Esto backflip! And now that I think about it, my son-in-law did a pretty good imitation of it after dinner!

  2. Oops – think I’m in the wrong blog day!

    • Nope…you’ve got the right day, Anne! Diane

  3. Avoule more credits:
    Peeling said potatoes – Mike

  4. and mike and kens horrible part in playing mad gab, That was bad

  5. Thanksgiving with family is a wonderful time of memories. We had 16 for dinner yesterday and we have a tradition in our family for this thanksgiving day meal. Instead of one person saying grace, we go around the table and everyone has an opportunity to give thanks for something that they are thankful for. A very emotional time for some as they shared with their family some of the blessings of the past year. Some are recovering from skin cancer, some were thankful for acceptance, some were thankful for us including them in our family, some were thankful for the country that we live in as we remembered those less fortunate. We are all so blessed as we celebrate this Thanksgiving Day and enjoy the fellowship of our families. A belated Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. xoxo ‘Mrs. B.’

  6. Oh how i would love being around that table! i adore Thanksgiving and your family~”Harvest Love” to you all. xo
