A Thankful Heart

Chris and I took a long drive to see my Aunt Joan today.

The fall leaves were beautiful and the rolling hills were breathtaking.  We spent a good deal of the afternoon quietly appreciating this amazing country that we are so blessed to live in. Without a doubt, this is my favourite time of the year – this season seems to pass much too quickly.

At one point, I asked Chris to think of five things that he was thankful for and I did the same. It was a good conversation – to acknowledge all that God has provided, to thank Him for difficult times, to reflect on our family, our marriage and our home and our friends.

A grateful heart makes life look very different. The mundane is no longer mundane, the small things become bigger and a full day of life, breath and movement is not taken for granted. Our words become softer and our pace becomes slower. Our demanding spirit de-escalates and our grace towards others enlarges.

Thankfulness changes us mightily. Thankfulness opens us up to a bigger, more colorful and more detailed world.

There are endless opportunities to thank God.

You say grace before meals.  All right.  But I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing and grace before I dip the pen in the ink.  G.K. Chesterton

The LORD is my strength and shield.  I trust him with all my heart.  He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.  I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.”  Psalm 28:7

” In all things give thanks!”. Hugs, Kathy
