How Did You Spend Family Day?

I danced with a snowman today!

I can’t get enough of the winter whiteness! My eyes can’t take the reflection off the snow but I sure do love walking on this huge expanse of ice in my backyard.

Unfortunately, my husband had to work all day so that was a big disappointment.  I wanted to “go out and play” this afternoon with Chris but it just wasn’t to be – he needed to make something happen and well…it took a lot longer than he thought it would. My unspoken and unmet expectations for the day spoke loudly over tacos and as soon as I had voiced my opinion, I knew I had hurt Chris. I really blew it.  It was selfish of me and I apologized.

When expectations become quiet or not-so-quiet demands, the joy of life at that moment is erased.   The “shoulds” are crippling. It was my responsibility to communicate my hopes for the day and it was my responsibility to deal with the change of plans in a more loving way.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.  It does not demand its own way.  It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 1 Corinthians 13.4-6

  1. Ya Same here. I was hoping that Harry, our kids and I would go to the cottage for the long weekend but Melissa didn’t want to go. We definetely didn’t want to leave her alone at home. The plan was changed. So I thought that we could cross country ski for a day instead but it didn’t happen either. Again, change of plan. Harry and I ended up flaking out in front of TV and had a nice long walk… just two of us. I m disappointed that all of us didn’t spend family day togetheer. However, we
will do it at another time as today is not the only day to spend time together as a family.

  2. Ya, I m trying to be loving…grrr.

  3. Yes I can relate too….Although I like to say “Use your WORDS” it’s often so difficult to do…
