Rainy Mondays

My husband, Chris says that rainy Mondays are for late afternoon naps.  I think they’re for homemade chili with fresh garden tomatoes and hidden pieces of tofu.  So, the nap was taken and the tofu was hidden.

Rainy days quiet us, don’t they? I don’t think that it’s coincidence that I received so many phone calls today – other people were “feeling” the rain too.  Rainy days gift us with unexpected time to sit a little longer and breathe a little deeper. Rainy days are “catch up and slow down” days. Despite the fact that I am not a phone person, I gladly resigned myself to snuggling into my big, blue pondering chair, with a phone to my ear and my legs dangling over the side. Nothing was pressing and no one was waiting. This doesn’t happen very often. If ever there was a time to be lazy, it was now –  a rainy-first-day-of-the-work week. It brought balance back into a crazy busy week and I’m so thankful for the change-up pace of this day.

My mind was moving slowly as well. I was asked to write a short bio for a speaking engagement that is coming up in October and I just couldn’t get the words to ignite. It’s tough to write about yourself but it’s even tougher to do it in a couple of descriptive and articulate sentences. Chris came to the rescue and helped me string the words together but I think the block in fluency had a lot to do with it being a rainy day Monday.

Just a lazy, hazy,rainy day.

I’m looking forward to the sound of the waves lulling me to sleep tonight.

Thank you, Lord for the rain. Thank you for this kind of day.

This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 NIV
