Saturdays Are For Moments Like This

The five of us jumped into the boat, drove out into the middle of the lake and jumped into the crystal blue, refreshing water.  It was the highlight of the day.  No one was around, the sun was beaming down on us and we spent the next hour bobbing up and down on our noodles, gabbing about nothing and everything.  Chris and I did some serious duck diving to the bottom of the lake while Shelley lay on her back, forgot all her stresses and basked under the puffy, white clouds and radiant blue sky. I think she could have lay there all day.

Saturdays are for moments like this. Really.

Escape from the monotony.

Running away from the wearisome uniformity of our days.

Being child-like.

No questions, no heaviness, no demands, no deadlines.

Lightness.

Fresh air. Cold water. Water shoes. Sunglasses. Sunscreen.

Smiles. “Throwing your head back” laughter. Funny “remember when…” stories. Making fun.

Ballet legs and front somersaults. Duck dives and Dead Man Floats.

We’re all over fifty and for those glorious moments this afternoon, our age didn’t matter. We left our responsibilities on the dock, along with our watches and cell phones.

Dinner was BBQ’ed sausages and cucumber salad with fresh dill and cherry tomatoes from the garden.

Strawberry and bananas smoothie popsicles for dessert.

Looking at the stars through the telescope tonight.

Watching Phoenie and his two friends sliding on the living room floor and landing in a big pile of giggles and limbs.

Pile on!

I smile at my husband, who is sitting across the room. He smiles back.

It just doesn’t get better than this. What a wonderful day.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.  Psalm 118:24
